Meet Dr. Deighan

William (Bill) Deighan, DMD was raised in Hampden, Maine. His father, Dr. William J. Deighan Jr., started Northeast Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the 1950’s. 

Dr. Deighan graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, with a BS in biology, a year after graduating summa cum laude with his BSc in genetics and microbiology from the University College of Swansea, Wales, UK.  He then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia. After receiving a DMD from U. Penn., he completed the oral and maxillofacial residency program at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston which included rotations at Carney Hospital, Boston City Hospital, and the V.A. hospital in Jamaica Plain. Dr. Deighan received the biology award in high school and the oral surgery award in dental school.

Dr. Deighan is a diplomat of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He has devoted his professional career to all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. To keep abreast of the latest developments in the field, he routinely attends national and local conferences and has always exceeded the annual continuing education requirements for the state of Maine. Dr. Deighan also belongs to several organizations: Penobscot Valley Dental Society, Maine Dental Association, Maine Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology and Bangor Rotary Club. He enjoys surgical privileges at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor and at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth. He is also a lifetime member of MaCKRO (Maine Canoe and Kayak Racing Organization).

Dr. Deighan’s interests include: canoe racing, skiing (alpine and cross country), hunting, tree farming and tinkering with classic British motorbikes. The longest canoe race he has paddled is the Race to the Midnight Sun, a 440 mile stretch on the Yukon River in Canada. One of his favorite canoe races in on the Marsh Stream. It is a springtime white water race that he has been organizing for many years.

Dr. Deighan lives in Newburgh with his wife Liliane and their pets: smiling english setters and a reclaimed feral cat. Their three sons, Angus, Patrick and Andrew, also live in Maine. Angus and his wife Abbey are orchardists and cider makers, operating under the name Rocky Ground Cider. Patrick is an expert arborist and runs the business Maine Tree Solutions. Andrew is a master of statistics and works at Jackson Lab.
